Grecia is a 21-year-old young lady who is the first person from Mi Casa Hogar to go to Bible College. The following is an interview from July 24th, 2016. Listen to the audio by using the link above, or read the transcript below.
How old were you when you came to Mi Casa Hogar?
I came to the children’s home when I was nine years old.
How long were you living at the children’s home?
I lived at the children’s home for 13 years.
What did you learn there that has helped you to get where you are today?
I saw many of the children there that, like me, had emotional problems and my brother ended up leaving the children’s home and so I’ve wanted to work with children who are on the street.
I saw many of the people who came to help the children’s home and I thought, “I could do the same for other people and for the children at Casa Hogar”.
How does it feel to be the first person from Casa Hogar to go to Bible College?
I first it was difficult because no one really understood what I wanted to do.
I had a scholarship to go to college and law school, and people would ask me why I would leave that to go study the Bible. Everyone was telling me that I needed a career that I could earn money and as a missionary you are not going to be able to earn money.
Everyone thinks I’ve left a good life to work with children and study the Bible.
It was hard, but now I see the benefit of being able to come back even to Casa Hogar and work with the children. I’ve learned to see the children differently, they are not just misbehaving, but what they need is someone who can love them and show them the right way.
