As Jesus begins his ministry in the gospel of Mark, we see that the call to believers is this: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15.) Sounds easy enough, right? Well, as you and I both know repentance and belief are both painful things to the human heart and yet, we are promised that they are the place where true healing is found.
As we are in the season of Lent, our call to repentance is designed to allow our hearts to feel the need for Easter, the day in which we will celebrate the forgiveness of sins once and for all; the day our hearts will leap for joy that Jesus came and accomplished the fullness of the law on our behalf. May we be quick to repent, that our hearts may be quick to rejoice in the truth of scripture found in Jeremiah 31:34, “For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” May this be so, and may Easter morning be the greatest celebration, one that points us of the fullness that will one day be!
