Members of the Diaconate, called Deacons, help our members in times of need and serve the church in the name of Christ.
The Diaconate has always been a cornerstone at Orangewood. We strive to advance the Kingdom of God for His glory by stimulating and encouraging God’s people to the further exhibition of love and good deeds through the passionate pursuit of Jesus Christ.
We hope that our efforts, and the efforts of those who serve with us will make you feel welcome here at Orangewood as we desire to be the face, voice, and hands of Jesus Christ to our congregation and the wider community. We cannot do this alone, so we need the participation of the greater congregation. If you would like to contact the deacons, please email the Chairman at email@example.com.
Request Financial Help
Orangewood deacons administer a fund for our members who find themselves in temporary financial need. As the body of Christ, we would be honored to care for you! To request assistance from the deacon’s fund, please submit a confidential request form here and one of the Deacons will get back to you shortly.
The Deacons Fund is a non-budgeted item, made possible by the generosity of our members. We have a special collection for the Deacons Fund every communion Sunday, but you can contribute at any time by designating “Deacons Fund” on your checks or on selecting “Deacons Fund” on the drop-down menu on Orangewood’s online giving platform.
Meet the Deacons
I started attending Orangewood in the summer of 1992. I went on the first mission trip to Mexico in 1993. Since that first mission trip, I have been on 70 mission trips around the world to 10 different countries. I have worked for the Walt Disney Company the last 27 years where I have learned many logistical skills that are utilized on mission trips and around Orangewood. I share my house with RTS students and enjoy coming alongside them with their call to the ministry. True confessions: when I walked into Orangewood Church I really felt I had nothing at all to offer to His kingdom. I thoroughly enjoy exposing others how they can be used to serve Christ locally and globally. Prayer reminder: When you see or hear a Disney commercial, pray for me, I really need it.
I have a journalism degree from the University of Florida and have worked in advertising and marketing all my life. Linda and I were married in 1971 and have been blessed with two children and five grandchildren. God reached out and got my attention in 2001 when I lost an old and good friend in the World Trade Center. Earlier that year I was invited to attend Bible Study Fellowship and also heard the gospel in a new way at Young Life camp. My life changed and continues to change. We came to Orangewood after a four year wandering to find home. The first Sunday we came to Orangewood we knew we were home. I am humbled to serve God as a deacon at Orangewood and as a children’s leader in Bible Study Fellowship.
Steve and his wife Michelle have three children: Stephanie, Jesse, and Randy, whom they homeschool. Steve has served faithfully as a deacon for many years, while Michelle & Stephanie have affectionately cared for countless children to keep the Tuesday morning Women’s Ministry functioning smoothly.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY but I have lived in Orlando since I was 2 years old. My wife and family have been members of Orangewood for almost 11 years. My wife and I both grew up Catholic but gave our lives to Christ in our early 30s. We jumped in with both feet and have been on fire for Jesus ever since. My wife, who has been the director of women’s ministries, now stays home with our four children: Luke, Madison, Noah, and David. As much as I love being a dentist I have many things that fight for my time. I love watching a good movie with the family. I love watching all my kids play sports (and sometimes coach). And last but certainly not least, I love all things Gators.
I was born and raised in Orlando. My wife Suzette and I met at UCF (yes, people do actually graduate from UCF!) We have two wonderful teenage boys. I enjoy riding motorcycles and camping. I love working with young men through TrailLife USA. My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13: “For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I look forward to serving God in all things. If I can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to ask.
I am originally from Long Island, New York which makes me a New York Mets and New York Jets fan. I moved here my junior year of high school. I have Bachelor’s degree in Management from UCF and a M.B.A from the University of Phoenix. God gave and allowed me to marry the best, most supportive, and most beautiful woman of God named Catherine. We have been blessed with two wonderful children (at the moment): Gabriella (Gigi) and Christopher William. We have attended Orangewood together since we’ve got married by Pastor Jakes on October 16, 2010.
I was born in Manhattan, and moved to California when I was nine. When I was thirteen, my older brother came home with a Bible and presented the Gospel to me. I had never heard it before. I was shocked at what my actual condition under God was, and even more shocked at the cure. I gladly accepted Christ and was on fire for him until reality set in. Until January 17, 1994, at 4:30 am, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake violently awakened me physically and spiritually. I suddenly came to grips with my sin. As I prepared to meet my God at that moment I cried out for forgiveness. That was the beginning of my return to my first love. Soon after, I met a girl named Deborah, a sweet, genuine, midwestern girl. Deborah and I got married in 1998 and now have 4 kids: Lindsay, Emily, Kylie and Jaden. We now own a Real Estate Company. I now seek to help others and bring the light of the Lord to those who are in darkness as I once was.
I graduated from University of North Florida in Jacksonville, and met my beautiful wife, Janice, at my first job out of college. She helped point me to Christ with emails such as, “If you were to die tonight, are you sure you would go to heaven?” We have been married over 27 years, and have 2 children: our daughter is married, and our son has nearly graduated college and is living with us again. When we moved to Orlando for a new job in 2012, we wanted to try several churches; we visited Orangewood first and fell in love with it, so we didn’t try any others. I have been an elder and deacon at other PCA churches (in Florida and California), and am excited about how God is using Orangewood to impact people for His kingdom.
Johnathan and his wife, Amy, moved to central Florida from northern Michigan ten years ago and soon after discovered Orangewood. Johnathan is a former elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He is a licensed clinical social worker, former school principal, coach and guidance counselor, and zoning official. He is the director of medical social work, intake and counseling at Grace Medical in Orlando. Johnathan and his wife have one son, a daughter-in-law and beautiful granddaughter; as well as three spoiled rescued dogs. He loves the beach, reading and sports.
