Week 4: Give us this Day

Gather

Gather for worship with your church family, in person, if able.

  • If you’ve gotten out of the habit of attending worship in person since the pandemic, make plans to rejoin Sunday worship this month.
  • Reflect on why it is “give us…” instead of “give me…”

Pray

Talk with your Heavenly Father, remembering that He sent Jesus to rescue you and make you His child.

  • Thank God for a list of things that you enjoy daily: things that you encounter that are your “daily bread” that create an enriching life for Him.
Dig

Examine related scriptures that speak to the topics in each scripture verse.

  • Consider the ‘name’ God shares with Moses in Exodus 34:6-7.
  • Which of God’s descriptions of Himself stands out to you, and why?
  • “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.1 John 5:14-15 NIV
  • “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8a ESV
  • “The Lord also restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased double all that Job had.” Job 42:10 NASB
Meditate

Quietly read and re-read your text, listening intently for the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

  • How did God’s provision of “manna” teach the Israelites about dependency on Himself?

Journal

Be still & quiet with God, writing out whatever comes to mind as you consider this week’s Scripture.

  • Answer this question: What are some of the benefits of living in a world divided by days & nights, seasons, years, etc.

Fast

Practice denying a specific thing in your life that distracts you from God or that you hold higher than Him.

  • Pick something of this world, like TV, or social media, that you partake of daily, and fast from it for one day, giving thanks for the Creator more than the created itself
Serve

Carry out an anonymous act of service inspired by this week’s Scripture.

  • Consider joining the Prayer Team as a service to Him and the church community.
  • Give someone in need an anonymous gift, like a meal, money, or something else.
