Q & A with Davis Price, our new Student Ministry Coordinator
Hey Davis! Tell us a little about your background.
I was born in Stuart, FL and have lived there the entirety of my life, outside the four years I spent attending Florida State University (Go ‘Noles). I recently graduated from FSU with my bachelor’s degree in accounting. I was very involved in my youth group at my home church in Stuart, which is where I completed my high school internship. During my senior year of college, I also worked as a youth intern at a church in Tallahassee.
How’d you hear about Orangewood, and what drew you here?
Lindsay Crespo, my wonderful wife, grew up attending Orangewood with her family and introduced me to Orangewood while we were dating. Lindsay was very instrumental in drawing me to Orangewood. Getting to know the Crespo family and hearing about the relationships that they’ve formed at Orangewood was enough for me to want to get involved.
What were you doing before working in Student Ministry here?
Before working in student ministry, I was finishing up my accounting degree at FSU (GO NOLES!), wrapping up my fourth year of involvement with my campus ministry, working as a youth intern at our local church, and very recently getting married to my best friend!
What makes you excited to do student ministry?
My life has been profoundly shaped by student ministers, small group leaders, and the friendships I had during my time as a student in student ministry. Witnessing Jesus take hold of hearts is what drives me. I want to encourage students to proclaim the gospel, to lead by serving, and to love those from whom they have nothing to gain. The aspect of the role that excites me the most is getting to know students and showing them that they can be agents of spiritual transformation in their friend groups, schools, and families. I’m also very excited to learn from Linda and Orangewood staff about becoming a better teacher, organizer, and minister.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to play basketball, play/listen to music, or skimboard if I’m at the beach. I also love watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars with my wife. I also LOVE to eat. I recently had a contest with some college buddies to see who could eat the most chicken nuggets. I ate 63 (and won).
Tell us about a time you laughed the hardest.
On our honeymoon, Lindsay and I were at a standstill about whether to eat Stouffer’s lasagna or frozen pizza in an Ingles grocery store. We rock-paper-scissored to make the decision, and pizza prevailed. We both thought it was much funnier than it was. I also laugh whenever I hear my dad recount killing an armadillo with an ax by our house when I was in elementary school.
What’s a time in your story you felt most alive?
I’d say a time I felt very alive was getting to baptize my friend Luis in one of the fountains on FSU’s campus. At that time, I was feeling very academically overwhelmed and second-guessing if I wanted to pursue accounting. Luis’s decision to follow Jesus was one of the events that truly opened my heart to the possibility of vocational ministry.
Who is someone you look up to? 
I really look up to my dad. He is a fantastic example of a Godly leader in our house and has always had our best interest in mind, whether it felt like it at the time or not. He’s also the hardest worker I’ve ever met. I also look up to my former youth pastor because he is quite a bit taller than I am.
Guilty pleasure?
I have recently begun enjoying crime podcasts far too much for my liking. Lindsay and I have listened to five hours of a podcast in less than a day.
Go-to food?
Longhorn Steakhouse is my go-to restaurant. Instead of steak, though, I gorge myself on their parmesan-crusted chicken, wild west shrimp, and unlimited bread. I am also passionate about queso with chorizo in it, lovingly known as chori-queso.
What’s a song you listened to on repeat this week?
Heroes by David Bowie.
Is there a band or artist that people would be surprised to find out that you listen to them? Who?
I grew up listening to Five Iron Frenzy, a Christian Ska band (they slept at my house when I was an infant), and still listen to their music often. Lindsay and I have also been thoroughly enjoying Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album.
Is there anything you want to say to our students?
I’d like the students to know that I can’t wait to start spending time with them. I’m looking forward to beating them in ping pong, sharing meals or coffee, and hearing about their lives. I’d also like to say that my office is open, and I’ve got a ton of snacks that I will never eat.
