Generations Initiative

Orangewood has grown over the last 50 years, and we’re so grateful for everything God has done here! While we honor the past, we also look forward to the future of Orangewood and its ministries. Celebrating the last 50 years. Leading into the next 50.

Two years ago, Orangewood Church Elders charged a team with developing a Site Plan for our entire campus. The group met with all ministry leaders and worked through dozens of plans before taking a Plan to the Elders for approval.

This Fall, we’ve slowly introduced the Generations Initiative, complete with blueprints, renderings, and details for our future building plans. This initiative has been spurred on from Psalm 145:4, "One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts."

We long for 100% participation across Orangewood and all her ministries as we join the work God is doing here at Orangewood and in our city. Join us for Generations as we seek to… “Invite every person into the life-changing story of Jesus!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Generations Initiative?

A plan to implement the construction of facilities to serve the needs of all Orangewood Church ministries.

Who is participating in Generations?

The Generations initiative is crafted for all of Orangewood’s ministries. Our desire is for 100% participation across church, school, MCP, and all other ministries.

What is the building plan?

Phase 1 includes classrooms, a worship center, and other spaces critical to meet the immediate capacity and functionality needs of all ministries. Phase 2 expands and enhances OCS athletic spaces needed to serve the growing student body. Phase 1 must occur first since it requires significant staging areas & large construction vehicle access across the east end of the campus.

Why now?

Orangewood is experiencing significant growth across many ministries. We have material capacity constraints, and many spaces are no longer functional.

What is the financial goal?

Our goal is to raise $15M in donations, with a stretch goal of $20M.

What is the whole cost?

The current estimate is $25M. Our plan is to fund as much as possible with donations & borrow no more than $10M.

Why borrow money?

Our preference is to have no debt. Based on fundraising research, we have targeted donations of $15-20M, which means up to $10M of debt may be required. We have consulted with accountants and this amount of debt is considered modest and reasonable. Both OC and OCS will contribute to debt payments.

Do we need a worship center?

A worship center is preeminent as the core facility of church functions, and the design includes significant enhancements to make it ideal for school plays, concerts, and other performing arts needs. Both church and school functions require artistic performance space and more formal space to accomplish our Mission. The current gym is converted to a formal setting 130+ days per year; church accounts for 65 days, and OCS accounts for 70 days.

When can we begin Phase 2?

Fundraising sufficient for Phase 1 and Phase 2 allows construction of Phase 2 as soon as Phase 1 staging and vehicle traffic ceases.

Aren’t we being good stewards of our space now? Why do we need more?

The only church-specific space that is functional is the nursery/MCP space (and even that has needs). All other church spaces are materially dysfunctional and have a negative impact on day-to-day ministry. From the beginning, Generations has been about capacity for the schools and functionality for the church.

When will we make our commitment?

Commitment Sunday is Nov 17 during our worship service at 10am. Advance Commitment is on the evening of Nov 3 for ministry leaders and anyone else ready to submit their commitment. Families that worship elsewhere are invited to join in either event and will also be provided with other opportunities to express their commitment.

Can my gift include stock and other assets?

Yes, we have experience receiving stock gifts and non-financial gifts. Email dmoore@orangewood.org with questions.

Can I make a multi-year pledge?

Yes, the Generations Initiative is a 3-year program. Donations can be made online and set up for weekly or monthly automatic payments.
