Join Discovering Orangewood, our membership course that explains who we are, what we believe, and how you can become a member of our church family.

Discovering Orangewood is our membership class, which provides an in-depth look at Orangewood’s beliefs and church structure, as well as the privileges and responsibilities of membership.

This class is offered in the spring and fall of every year. The class kicks off with a dinner at the home of our Lead Pastor, Jeff Jakes, and his wife, Katie, and meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00am for the following six weeks. The next Discovering Orangewood class begins in September 2017. If you are interested in joining this class or have any other questions, please email Kaye Morningstar.

Why Discovering Orangewood?

We believe that membership at a church is different than other kinds of membership, like a gym, a civic club or a book club. It involves mutual commitments in the form of serious vows – to Christ first and to Orangewood as a body of believers. Because we believe that becoming a member is a serious commitment, we want you to know what you’re getting into. Discovering Orangewood is designed to provide an in-depth look at what it means to be a follower of Christ and to commit to this local church.

Discovering Orangewood is an exploration of these topics. So while completion of this class is a prerequisite to membership, it is not membership itself.  It really is a “discovering” process, without obligation or any pressure to join. As an exploration, it also means that all honest questions are good questions.

Discovering Orangewood is different than other “classes” in that it’s not only a place for you to know more, but also a place where you can be more fully known. Our teachers and table leaders are coming with a desire for two-way sharing, so you can expect to not only learn more about Orangewood, but also to connect personally with current members and to be known on a deeper level.

Discovering Orangewood is also an on-ramp for participants to become actively involved in the church. You will meet the leaders of our ministries, and learn more about ways that you can get plugged in, whether it’s joining a community group, a Bible study, or finding a regular area to serve.
