God has blessed Orangewood Church with a rich history that tells the story of his faithfulness.
At Orangewood, it’s our mission to make disciples to advance Christ’s Kingdom. This is because we believe that the church (which is made up of disciples) is the primary vehicle God uses to accomplish this goal.
Further, we take God’s mandate seriously that we are to be a city on a hill, and that we are to love both God and our neighbors. Because of this, the good news of the gospel compels us to engage in building bridges to our local community.
We have the greatest story to tell, and we have a world in need of the message of Jesus’s saving, redeeming love. If you would like to know more about this message, please email us—we’d love to talk with you!
The History of Orangewood
In 1976, Orangewood began in a storefront on Colonial Drive near downtown Orlando by our founding pastor, Rev. Chuck Green. With 59 charter members, Orangewood quickly grew, with a strong focus on families and Biblical education for all members. As the church began to grow, we moved into a new building off of Wymore Road in 1982 (which is now the location of Orangewood Christian School’s lower campus.) After only six more years, Orangewood expanded again to our current location on Maitland Boulevard in 1988.
Families from Orangewood saw the need for Christian education for their children, and Orangewood Christian School was started in 1980, graduating the first class of students in 1988. To date, more than 1200 students have graduated from OCS. Our education program was expanded further in 2008, with the launch of Maitland Community Preschool, providing early childhood education from a Christ-centered perspective.
Throughout our history, Orangewood partnered with churches and ministries both locally and globally that are advancing the Kingdom of God. We are grateful to have planted four PCA churches in the Orlando area. We have always supported local ministries who are bringing the peace of God to Central Florida in practical ways, including Choices Women’s Clinic (previously True Life Choice), which was started in 1983 by Orangewood members. Our philosophy of global missions has been through long-term partnerships, which is why we have deep relationships with national partners in five areas–Mexico, Honduras, Greece, Japan and the Middle East–and we send our members on frequent trips to visit these partners and stay connected with them throughout the year.
From the very beginning, the mission of Orangewood Church has been to see the name of Jesus glorified throughout Central Florida and the world. We are grateful to God for his blessing to us over the past forty years, and look forward to seeing what he has in store for us in the future!
